Enkei develops low-impact construction materials from recovered waste, with its flagship product ReCeramix™—made from over 90% recycled inputs—already deployed in interior applications. With fresh capital, the company plans to accelerate R&D and commercialisation, expanding its material portfolio to replace emissions-heavy inputs like concrete and stone, as it moves from early validation toward broader adoption in architecture and design. Founded by Lovisa Sunnerholm and Miriam Bichsel, Enkei develops materials made from construction and demolition waste, targeting one of Europe’s largest and most resource-intensive industries. Its flagship product, ReCeramix™, is a ceramic-based material composed of more than 90% recovered waste, designed to replace conventional materials like decorative concrete, marble, and terrazzo without compromising on performance or aesthetics. The company has already brought ReCeramix™ into real-world applications across interior surfaces, including tabletops and architectural elements, positioning itself at the intersection of design and sustainability. With the new funding, Enkei plans to scale production, expand its material portfolio, and accelerate commercial adoption in architectural and construction use cases. The raise comes as the construction sector faces increasing pressure to address its environmental footprint, with construction and demolition waste accounting for the largest waste stream in the EU and materials like cement contributing significantly to global carbon emissions. Enkei is betting that circular alternatives can not only reduce impact but also compete on cost, scalability, and design—unlocking a new category of materials built from waste rather than extraction. Alongside the funding, the company has also secured EU-backed Interreg support to further develop circular material flows in the building industry, reinforcing its ambition to move from early-stage innovation to industrial-scale impact.
